Free Drinks at Sloppy Joe's in Key West?

If you won the lotto would you head to the nearest bar and buy everyone a round? I haven’t heard of anyone doing this recently but a Florida Lotto ticket sold in Key West was the only one to match all six numbers in last Saturday night’s drawing, and is worth $17 million. Saturday’s Florida Lotto numbers were 8, 21, 26, 27, 30 and 40. The winning ticket was sold at the Publix supermarket at 3316 N. Roosevelt Blvd, Key West, FL.

The winner is now faced with a ten (10) hour drive to claim their prize. Never mind that the winner will drive right by the Miami Florida Lottery office about 2 hours into their trip. They must go to the state capital to claim the prize. The rule, posted on the Florida Lottery Website states:
“…All other prizes greater than $250,000 must be claimed at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.”

This is an archaic, useless rule. The is no security or validation reason the prize could not be claimed in Miami. The ONLY reason the winner must drive 640 miles to the Florida Lottery HQ is so the lottery can arrange a press conference to parade the winners before the media. Maybe the Florida Lottery should pack up and travel to Miami for their press conference.

Time for the Florida Lottery to join the digital age and stop inconveniencing their winners.
